wildeebeast: Hello! not the anon from earlier, but I'll also be going to NY this summer which is pretty much my dream come true! Was wondering if you had any tips on where I could go to soak up some good music there? I've tons of musicals that I *have* to watch, I was thinking more of places I could go to check out the local music scene? Thanks SO much!

Of course! (And be sure to come say hi when you get here!) I’m a jazz junkie, so my favorite places to enjoy that are the Village Vanguard, the 55 Club, Bill’s Place, Ella’s (check the site for music details but I believe jazz is on Thursdays), and, for a treat (do this on your last night in NYC), Bemelman’s Bar at the Carlyle Hotel. I think their jazz trio is on every weeknight starting around 8 or 9 (check the website to be sure), and it’s an unmissable experience. A bit pricey but so worth it. You feel like you’re in the ’20s. For more contemporary stuff, definitely check out Le Poisson Rouge, Lakeside Lounge, The Living Room, Bowery Ballroom, Don’t Tell Mama, Prohibition, Fontana’s, and, as you’re coming in the summer, definitely go to the Hudson Beach Cafe. Hope that helps! If you wanna know anything else just let me know. xx
